Is there an equivalent to `adb shell am broadcast -a com.android.systemui.demo -e command network -e wifi show -e level 2` without using `com.android.systemui.demo`?

Short answer: no — not for faking the displayed status bar state. The com.android.systemui.demo broadcast is SystemUI's demo mode, and it's the only supported (shell-accessible) way to make the status bar show a Wi‑Fi level that doesn't reflect reality. Alternatives all have caveats:

  1. cmd statusbar shortcut — adb shell cmd statusbar accepts a shorter syntax, but it just emits the same demo-mode broadcast internally, so it still uses com.android.systemui.demo under the hood.

  2. Actually changing connectivity — adb shell svc wifi enable/disable, svc data, or toggling airplane mode changes the real network state, which the status bar then reflects. You can't force a specific "level 2" bars/signal this way, since that comes from the radio.

  3. Root/Xposed/Magisk module — with root you can hook SystemUI internals (e.g. the Wi-Fi/icon controllers) to override the reported signal level, but that's per-ROM, fragile, and obviously not shell-portable.

  4. Screenshot/video fakery — overlay or edit the bar in post; only useful for docs/demos, not on-device.

So if the goal is a clean, repeatable way to render a fixed Wi-Fi icon/level (for screenshots, test recordings, talks), demo mode is the equivalent — there's no second, sanctioned API alongside it. If your concern is merely the long broadcast syntax, you can wrap it in a helper script or use cmd statusbar for brevity, but the demo-mode mechanism itself is unavoidable without root.
