How to show the LineageOS 23.2 volume status without pressing a volume key, but possibly with ADB?

Yes — LineageOS 23.2 (Android 16) supports this via ADB, no volume key needed.

Read volume levels

The media volume command prints the current value with --get:

bash
adb shell media volume --stream 3 --get # music/media
adb shell media volume --stream 2 --get # ring
adb shell media volume --stream 1 --get # system
adb shell media volume --stream 0 --get # call/ringer voice
adb shell media volume --stream 4 --get # alarm
adb shell media volume --stream 5 --get # notification

Example output:

text
media volume: stream 3 is currently 10 of 15 # current / max

Run adb shell media volume to see full usage. On modern Android this media shell command exists specifically to read/set stream volumes (AOSP source history, Stack Overflow).

Alternatives

  • Full state of every stream at once (verbose but complete — includes muted state, per-stream index/max):
    bash
adb shell dumpsys audio | grep -A 20 "STREAMS"
    # or: adb shell dumpsys audio
  • Show the on-screen volume slider without touching the keys (this makes the same UI appear as pressing a volume key):
    bash
adb shell cmd media_session volume --show --stream 3
Without --set, this pops up the volume dialog without changing anything (Stack Overflow).

Notes

  • Stream numbers: 1=system, 2=ring, 3=music, 4=alarm, 5=notification; you can also use --get with --stream names accepted by cmd media_session volume (e.g. --show --stream music).
  • To make the on-screen slider pop up without ADB, some launchers/automation apps (e.g. Tasker with the "Volume Dialog" intent) can trigger the same dialog.
