On Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon Framework 13 Firefox I disabled DRM from a tab at the top left and no matter what I do I am unable to make DRM work back I am stuck with:

> Firefox is installing components needed to play the audio or video on this page. Please try again later.

To re-enable DRM content playback in Firefox on Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon, follow these steps:

  1. Enable DRM in Firefox Settings:

    • Open Firefox and type about:preferences in the address bar.
    • Scroll down to the "General" section.
    • Look for the "Digital Rights Management (DRM) Content" option.
    • Check the box for "Play DRM content" (this may also be labeled as "Play DRM-controlled content").
    • Firefox should now attempt to download and install the required Widevine plugin automatically. If it doesn't, proceed to the next step.
  2. Check for Widevine Installation:

    • Type about:addons in the address bar.
    • Go to the "Plugins" section and look for "Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc."
    • If it is present but disabled, enable it.
    • If it is missing, restart Firefox and revisit a DRM-protected site (like Netflix) to trigger the installation prompt.
  3. Manual Widevine Installation (if needed):

    • If Widevine does not install automatically, you may need to manually copy the Widevine library from another browser (like Chrome or Chromium) or from a previous Firefox profile.
    • The Widevine library is usually located at:
      text
      ~/.mozilla/firefox/<profile>.default-release/gmp-widevinecdm/
    • You can also try installing the libwidevinecdm0 package from a trusted source, but this is not always available for all Linux distributions.
  4. Restart Firefox:

    • Close and reopen Firefox after making these changes.
  5. Verify:

    • Visit a DRM-protected site (e.g., Netflix, Disney+, or Amazon Prime Video) and check if the error persists.

Note: If you still see the message "Firefox is installing components needed to play the audio or video on this page," wait a few minutes and refresh the page. Sometimes the installation process can take a little time, especially if your internet connection is slow.

If the issue persists, let me know which step you're stuck on, and I can help you troubleshoot further.
